The Azure Torch is held by a gargoyle on the eastern approach to the Tower of Knowledge. Reach it after obtaining Endu, then use the torch to ignite three outdoor gargoyle beacons. The third beacon is reached after Obmuer Temple, so the tower does not open on your first visit.
Reach the torch first
After the Shrine Guardian, collect Holy Sword Endu and use Wind Dash to cross the eastern bridge toward the tower approach. Find the gargoyle holding the torch and take it before searching the rest of the island.
The torch is an item you need for the beacon route, not a reward for already opening the tower. If you are facing the sealed entrance without it, check the nearby approach again. You can collect it before obtaining the second Wind Gem.
First beacon: the high broken stairway
Return to the opening region and follow the elevated route toward the higher monument. Collect the second Wind Gem before tackling the longer movements in this area. The first beacon route uses the pillars and the high broken stairway.
Climb through the raised paths, reach the top of the broken stairs and use the Azure Torch on the gargoyle beacon. Listen for the bell after activation. That sound is useful confirmation; merely walking up to a statue is not the same as lighting it.
Second beacon: near the elevator
Another elevated path above the first monument leads toward an elevator connecting the upper route with ground level. From that upper area, follow the path around toward the north. The next gargoyle beacon is beside a locked gate.
Ignite it with the torch and confirm the second bell. The neighboring gate does not have to open immediately for the beacon activation to count. Avoid spending time trying to force every nearby door before continuing toward Obmuer Temple.
Third beacon: after the temple boss
The final outdoor beacon belongs to the route out of Obmuer Temple after the Sea King fight. Progress through the temple rather than continuing to search the opening hillside for a third statue. On the post-boss route, find the gargoyle and ignite it with the Azure Torch.
A nearby travel connection returns you toward the opening region. Once the three bells have rung, head back to the Tower of Knowledge. You now have a reason to revisit the entrance that was sealed when you first found the torch.
Two puzzles that use the same tool
The three outdoor beacons open the tower. The seven numbered gargoyles inside are a separate puzzle encountered later. Completing one does not mean you should ignite every statue in the other.
For the balcony puzzle, use the Tower of Knowledge solution. Keep the torch available, but read the numbered clues before firing. The correct indoor targets are different from the three unnumbered beacons spread across the island.
If a beacon will not activate
Check that you are using the torch’s fire action on the intended gargoyle, and let its magic resource recover if it is empty. If you are affected by a status that disables magic, resolve that condition before assuming the statue is broken. Save before taking an unfamiliar route back through enemies.
